Stolen Vehicle Recovered and Suspect Identified

Branson Police were notified of a stolen vehicle from a local business on November 13. A female employee who had completed her shift walked outside to discover her car was gone from the parking lot. She reported the incident to police who used the businesses surveillance video that had recorded a male suspect entering and taking the car from the parking lot.
Officers were able to identify the suspect as Casey Lee Vandervoort (23) who provided no address other than being homeless. Vandervoort had been arrested earlier in the day on other charges and is currently being held at the Taney County Jail. “When our officers recognized the suspect in the video they returned to the area of the original arrest of Vandervoort and quickly located the stolen car,” stated Assistant Police Chief Eric Schmitt.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to lock their vehicles and not leave keys inside the vehicles. “With cold weather approaching it becomes common for people to leave their vehicles running while they warm.” stated Schmitt. “Leaving vehicles running while not securing the door locks, or leaving your keys in your vehicles becomes a great inconvenience if your car is stolen.” Sixty-three percent of the vehicles stolen in Branson in 2016 had the keys left inside the vehicles.
