Branson Police Detective Named Employee of the Month

Branson Police Detective Joseph Edwards was named the City’s employee of the month for December recognizing his quick actions this past September that helped save a man’s life. Detective Edwards was off-duty and volunteering at a Boys and Girls Club event at the Branson Landing when he witnessed a man collapse to the ground.
Detective Edwards immediately started rendering medical aid to the man by providing chest compressions and applied an automatic external defibrillator (AED). Upon arrival of additional emergency responders including the City’s Fire and Police Departments and Taney County Ambulance District, the patient was breathing and conscious.
Alderman Betsy Seay presented Detective Edwards with a plaque recognizing him as the employee of the month and commended him for his display of several City Values including Volunteerism, Safety and Service & Courtesy. Detective Edwards addressed the Board thanking them for this honor, “Regardless of this recognition, I would do this any day in an effort to help someone.” He also gave credit to several others who were on the scene including Branson Landing Security Officers who helped bring an AED to the patient and to do chest compressions.
“I’m really proud of Joe… he is a great example of a police officer who is ready to serve on or off duty,” stated Police Chief Stan Dobbins. “I truly believe any of our City employees would do the same thing – they care, are great public servants, and all work hard each day for our citizens and visitors.
Hands Only CPR training is available through resources including the American Red Cross, Branson Fire Rescue, Taney County Ambulance District and others. Learn more at www.cpr.heart.org.
