The City of Branson has planted a Flowering Dogwood at Lake Forest Wilderness Park in honor of the 50-year wedding anniversary of Kansas couple, Jolene and Ron Christopher.
Jolene and Ron’s Children wanted to make this big marriage milestone a special one. While Jolene and Ron live in Kansas, they love the Branson area and visit regularly to enjoy the trails and outdoors. Their children remember visiting Branson often growing up and wanted to have a tree planted in a place that has been special to their whole family throughout their parent’s entire 50-years of marriage.
Jolene and Ron’s children applied for the city’s Memorial Tree Program which allows anyone to dedicate a tree in a city park or other public area to honor a loved one, family member or dedicated service member. They then presented Jolene and Ron with the official certificate and plans as a Christmas gift.
The tree was planted this past March and dedicated to Jolene and Ron in April.
“Our family appreciates the effort you made to get a white dogwood & planted so quickly,” said Jolene and Ron in a thank you email to the City.
“The pictures and map helped us locate the tree. We drove here yesterday, found the tree and took pictures to send to our family. We are very happy with the location of the tree and should be enjoyed by other nature lovers. We also enjoyed reading about the history behind the wilderness area’s existence. We look forward to walking the trails and exploring more the next couple of days. Thank you again for your efforts to purchase and plant the tree,” concluded Jolene and Ron.
A tree provides a gift to the whole community and funds future and existing landscape projects within the City of Branson. The Memorial Tree Fund Program offers options to choose from to provide you with the memorial planting that best allows you to honor the memory of your loved one. Trees are planted in the Spring or Fall of each year. Once your tree is planted the recipient’s name will be added to a commemorative plaque at City Hall.
The City also has a Memorial Bench Fund Program which allows you to honor the memory of your loved one by dedicating a bench which will be installed in city parks, playgrounds, or along city trails. The benches are made from durable recycled plastic. Plaques can be personalized with an inscription of your choosing.
More information about both programs, the cost options and instructions on how to apply are all on our website, www.bransonmo.gov. You can visit the direct link here.
