Branson Volunteers Plant 30+ Shrubs for Arbor and Earth Days

In honor of Arbor and Earth Days, volunteers from the Branson Tree Board and the Planning and Development Department planted over thirty shrubs along the trail in North Beach Park.

The shrub species included buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis), possumhaw (Ilex decidua), witchhazel (Hamamelis vernalis), elderberry (Sambucus canadensis), and silky dogwood (Cornus amomum). The Ozarks-native shrubs were selected based on their tolerance for wet conditions, year-long aesthetics, and attractiveness to birds and pollinators. The shrubs will also serve as a shoreline stabilizer and will work to purify water, which are important aspects of Branson’s storm water program.

The majority of the shrubs were donated by Forest ReLeaf of Missouri, a non-profit nursery that provides trees and shrubs to planting projects that occur on community land such as parks, schools, subdivision common ground, and churches.

“We are so grateful for the donation by Forest ReLeaf of Missouri. Their plant material made it possible to green up a problem area without breaking our budget. The quality of their people and plants are a real asset for our whole State, and I hope our local community groups look into their services,” said Senior Planner, Perry Eckhardt.

More information about Forest ReLeaf and their tree programs can be found at . The entire project was a joint effort between Branson Parks and Recreation, the Branson Public Works department, the Branson Planning and Development Department, and the Tree Board.
