Engineering is responsible for the design, construction, inspection and oversight of all city capital projects such as streets, new sewer lines and water systems, new or expanding water or wastewater facilities and public facilities. The department also monitors and evaluates traffic, signalization of intersections and traffic congestion mitigation.

Engineering has a GIS (Geographic Information System) Division that develops street, property, aerial, zoning and other types of city maps that are available to the public.

Public Works

Public Works Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining all city buildings and public properties excluding parks and park facilities and the city-owned Lakeside RV Park.

Public Works Street Division maintains city streets and right-of-ways. This division also does reconstruction projects on city streets including asphalt patching, installation of curb, guttering and drains. During the winter months, this division is responsible for snow removal of city streets.

Public Works Garage Division is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all city vehicles including fire engines, police vehicles, light and heavy equipment used in the daily operations of the city.

Each April and November, Public Works conducts a city-wide cleanup free of charge for residents where city trucks pick up large items such as appliances, mattresses, and furniture in addition to brush and tree limbs.

A recycle drop-off center is open 6 days a week, Monday-Saturday from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. , plus all day Thursday 7:30 a.m. -6 p.m. Located at 601 Compton Drive , we accept all types of paper, newspapers, magazines, cardboard, plastics #1 & #2, tin cans, aluminum. A Household Chemical Collection facility is also available inside the recycle center, accepting household chemicals such as oil-based paint (no latex), pesticides, cleaners, waste oil, auto fluids, pool chemicals, etc. There is no charge and household chemicals are accepted from any Taney County resident.
