President issues disaster declaration for Missouri

Taney County one of five counties eligible for assistance

 

                President Obama has ordered federal aid for Missouri to help the recovery from severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that started last month.

                The president yesterday declared a major disaster in Missouri, and the declaration allows federal funding for individuals in Taney, Butler, Mississippi, New Madrid, and St. Louis counties.  The assistance includes grants for temporary housing, home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

                Federal funding can also be used by some government agencies and nonprofit groups for emergency work and repairs or replacements to damaged facilities.   

                Individuals and business owners who sustained losses in the designated counties can begin applying for assistance today by registering online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-862-7585 (TTY) for the hearing and speech impaired.   

                A factsheet on how to apply for federal assistance from FEMA is also on the city’s website at www.bransonmo.gov and click on “Flood Recovery” on the home page.
