Utilities
Branson owns and operates its own water and sewer systems that include two surface water treatment plants, seven ground water wells, and two wastewater treatment plants that are equipped with phosphorus removal equipment to ensure that high quality water is returned to Lake Taneycomo. Branson was the first city in Missouri to install phosphorus removal equipment in 1995. Both water and wastewater treatment plants are staffed 24/7.
The two water plants produce over 1.2 billion gallons of safe drinking water annually. In addition to assuring that all state and federal standards are met for water and wastewater treatment, the Utilities Department is also responsible for all sewer and water connections and maintenance around the city. The city’s system includes almost 100 miles of water lines, over 212 miles of gravity sewer lines and 35 sewer pump stations used to convey wastewater over the hilly terrain to the wastewater treatment facilities.
